About the studio
Luminary Studios is a small, independent studio in Aotearoa New Zealand. We make Utopean, a home for writers and worldbuilders: a place to build a world, fill it with people, and come back to find it waiting.
Our story
Anyone who builds worlds knows the drawer. Notebooks of names, a map drawn on the back of a receipt, a character whose eyes changed colour somewhere between chapter three and chapter nine. Worlds sprawl, and the tools for holding them tend to feel like spreadsheets.
Utopean is built around continuity. You make Worlds, with places inside places. You make Personas: characters with a past, relationships and a voice of their own. You write Events and Scenes, follow the story threads that run through them, and keep the pictures in a gallery. It all stays connected, so the next time you open a scene, your characters remember what came before.
Characters, worlds, stories, and the possibilities between them. That's what we're here for.
The people

Community and Support Lead
Blake looks after the Utopean community and our members, from the first hello on Discord to the first worlds our testers build. He also made the Utopean key art: the twilight balcony, the lantern, the books and the glowing city you'll see across this site.
Stories are made of what came before. We'd rather Utopean remembered the things that matter properly than promised to remember everything.
The type on the page, the words on a button, the light in a picture. Small things decide whether a place feels lived in.
What you make in Utopean belongs to you, and private things stay private.
Clear prices, shown before you sign up. If something changes, we'll say so plainly.
Start with one character, or one place, and see where it leads.
